Erectile Dysfunction and Penile Implant Surgery
What is erectile dysfunction?
Erections result from a complex of hormones, chemicals, and electrical signals that allow two natural cylinders in the penis (known as the corpora cavernosa) to fill with blood and become stiff and rigid. When a man is deficient in any of these areas, he can begin to experience erectile dysfunction.
Erectile dysfunction is very common and impacts around 40% of men in their 40’s, 50% of men in their 50’s, 60% in their 60’s, with that trend continuing for each decade of life. The good news for men is that in the 21st century, if you want an erection you can get one!
Treatments for erectile dysfunction
Pills such as Viagra and Cialis work to increase your body’s natural erectile function. When pills don’t work, shots of medication using a tiny insulin needle delivered directly to the penis may work by drawing in blood to the erectile cylinders. Vacuum erection devices with a silicone constriction ring may be a good option for some men.
Surgery for Erectile Dysfunction:
The Penile Implant
Sometimes pills or even shots will only go so far. So, what next after they stop working? The best option for most men is an inflatable penile prosthesis.
The male sexual experience involves 4 key pillars:
As all men know, without erection the other three do not usually follow. This is where the implant steps in. The penile implant works by reinforcing your body’s natural erectile cylinders within the penis with ones that can be activated on-demand using a pump. Allowing men to achieve an erection whenever they want it and for as long as they need it. Most importantly with no negative impact on sensation and pleasure.
